Unbelievable home in the Brazilian mountains

This sustainable 8,000 square foot Mountain House was created by David Guerra Architecture. Built as a weekend refuge for family gatherings, the house features stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains, located on an ecological reserve in Nova Lima, Minas Gerais, Brazil. The materials were chosen with the aim to combine natural elements, fused with contemporary and rustic accents to create a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. The goal was to design a beautiful home with low maintenance and to create a contrast between natural and technological materials such as reclaimed wood, stones, earthenware, bamboo, tile, fiber, metal, stainless steel, double glazed and laminated glass, glass tile, anodized aluminum, wood Venetian blinds and tecnocimento.

The appropriate placement of the house within its surrounding, the right usage of glass and the wood venetian blinds enabled cross ventilation which helps to create a cooler atmosphere within the home. The use of wood on the floor, the walls and the ceiling as well as the massive wooden doors cause noise absorption which increases the acoustic comfort. The cantilever roofing of the verandas is composed of a steel structure, bamboo and polycarbonate, which offers shading and creates a village atmosphere. The furniture includes classic, rustic, contemporary designs and pieces made by Brazilian designers. All the furniture placed throughout the residence lends a sense of lightness and fluidity that enables one to see through them, to the landscape beyond.
