A unique restoration in Sydney

By 1 Kind Design  //  Interior Design  //  Please Leave a Comment

The White House has been designed by MCK Architects, located in Sydney, Australia. The visitor is confronted with a restored shingle clad facade and enters through the old front door, moving through an essentially restored interior and arriving in an expanding interior of the new that moves and extends externally in both vertical and horizontal planes.

One arrives in a very modern abstract interior with a large enigmatic floating brown box cantilevering into the double height void. When the doors are stacked away in their steel box home, the movement is seamless and uninterrupted. The visitor then turns to realize that the back facade to the old house is actually sitting in the new lounge room, with the eye taken up and towards the sky allowing one to see the complete facade with gable and chimney. The addition wraps around the old, which is legible both internally and externally.
